Hey, things happen. Sometimes a computer gets confused because a few bad lines of code get stuck in there somewhere... and sometimes a computer is in a lot of pieces because a very frustrated person decided to introduce it to a sledgehammer for some "aggressive reprogramming".
At MCCS, we don't judge. We just ask about the symptoms and get to work repairing or replacing whatever has gone wrong. We also believe, wherever possible, that we need to explain how to prevent the problem from recurring and stand by our work if it recurs again within six months of our repairing it.
Of course, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, so we also offer backup and maintenance services to prevent some computer problems BEFORE they happen to you.
Some examples of our work...
Yes, yes, it's cliché - "Have you tried turning it off and on? Is it plugged in?" But there's a reason we dot every i and cross every t in the technology world.
Our technicians won't bog you down in every detail, but we will make sure to apply our expertise to every situation. For example, we ALWAYS ask about whether things are plugged in on Mondays. Why Mondays? Because most cleaning services come in on the weekends, and it is actually a pretty common mistake for someone to unplug an internet router to plug in a vacuum. Some of us worked in call centers where it was guaranteed to be the answer at least once a week.
It IS a real phenomenon that computers seem to work a lot slower over time. There are some practical reasons for this, including installation of a lot of background processes and system updates eating up a lot more space as time goes on. There are also psychological reasons - we spend some time with the newer hardware at work, suddenly what we have at home seems slower by comparison.
But when it comes to a computer acting painfully slow after a year or two, the number one cause is pet hair clogging up the fans.
When we work on a computer, we make sure to dust it out with an air can every time. Not just for performance issues, also because it's just good maintenance on our machines. Like changing the oil on a car. Even a pet-free house can find a lot of dust and dander making its way into the rig as the months go by.
When a computer isn't working properly, it's like a WhoDunIt mystery. Each symptom is a clue, and we technicians are the detectives. We have a passion for finding the truth and war stories that feel, to us, very much like award winning detective novels.
Yeah, we're pretty geeky about it.
